Director Shoojit Sircar's Piku is steam-rolling through the Indian box office with business of over Rs 60 crores since it released on May 8.

Trade analyst Taran Adarsh tweeted:



The film stars Amitabh Bachchan as the hypochondriac Bhashkor Banerjee, Deepika Padukone as his daughter Piku, and Irrfan Khan as taxi service owner Rana Chaudhary. (Also Read: Piku's Juhi Chaturvedi on Her Bengali Connection and Writing For Amitabh Bachchan)

Who can stop the onward march of Piku, also Bollywood's best performer abroad this year? Certainly not Anurag Kashyap's Bombay Velvet for which things are looking bleak at the box office. (Also Read: Here's Proof That Anurag Kashyap is Not 'Depressed or Hiding')

The period piece, starring Ranbir Kapoor and Anushka Sharma, opened in more theatres than Piku did but has performed dismally since releasing on May 22:



This Friday's Tanu Weds Manu Returns, starring Kangana Ranaut and Madhavan, is hoping to give Bollywood a third hit after Akshay Kumar's Gabbar Is Back and Piku.
