Playing A Punjabi Character Was Difficult, Says Rakshanda Khan

New Delhi: She shot to fame as plain JaneJassi's sophisticated rival in popular TV show Jassi JaisiKoi Nahin but actress Rakshanda Khan is all set for an imagemakeover with her character of a loud Punjabi woman in AmmajiKi Galli.

Rakshanda is known for her controlled performance inKyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi and Jassi. This is why the36-year-old, who is making a comeback of sorts with the Sab TVcomedy show, took up the challenge to play a character, who isan alien to her personality.

"It is a complete 180 degree turn in my career graphwith this character. I was scared initially. I had noreference point as it is not even connected with the kind ofroles I have done in the past," Khan told PTI.

The actress, who is also famous for her sartorialchoices onscreen, has decided to go loud by wearing brightcoloured patiyala salwars to play Parminder.

"I faced loads of difficulties. She's not yourparticular Tulsi or parvati bhabi. Parminder has her temper."

The small screen is witnessing the return of some ofthe old faces after being dominated by new talent for a whileand Rakshanda considers it a good sign both for the actors andfor the shows.

"Somehow I feel that the new generation actors arepretty much momentary stars. They are like the bubbles. Whenthe bubble gets burst, they disappear. Somehow the older batchof actors seem to have created a long lasting bond with theaudience. Even today you have specially written characters forFarida Jalal, Ronit Roy and Apara Mehta," said she.

"Drama serials are making people cry from ages. Timehas come when people want to watch something light on theirtelevision sets after coming back home. When it comes tocomedy there is 120 different sequences. Seeing the particularcharacter you don't feel monotonous," added Rakshanda.

The actress, who kept away from TV for almost twoyears, says her event management company kept her busy. "The kind of roles that came my way did not excite memuch. So I kept myself busy with by event management company'Celebrity locker entertainment'," Rakshanda said.
