When animated movie Ramayan hitsbig screens this October, actor Ashutosh Rana would berealising his long-cherished dream of 'playing' the originalsuper villain Ravan.
"When I was in Madhya Pradesh in my growing up days, Iused to perform in Ramleela. But then I was too young to playRavan, which is a matured character. However, I always wantedto do it. Thanks to this movie that I can now realise mychildhood dream of playing the villainous king,'' Ashutoshsaid in an interview
"The face of characters may keep on changing, but thevoice remains in public memory for long. The challenge oflending my voice to the character of Ravan was even more asmavericks like Manoj Bajpai and Juhi Chawla were dubbing forRam and Sita respectively."
"To accentuate the character of Ram, it is essential thatRavan too is 'played' meticulously. They both share an'unusual chemistry'. As for Ravan, it is a character which iscontemporary in every age," Ashutosh said.
To a query whether he wants the audiences to love or hatehim in Ramayan, he said epics are not to be liked ordisliked. "Epics are epics. They are to be accepted as theyare."
On his fewer big screen outings of late, Ashutosh said heis doing at least one or two movies annually.
"I did Summer 2007, Awarapan and Coffee House. Theywere all different and good characters. If you are talkingabout some 'dhamakedar' character, then they are always farand between," Ashutosh said
Currently, the actor is back on the small screen afterhis reality show Sarkar Ki Duniya. Upbeat over the overwhelming response to Kali, Ashutoshquipped, "The importance of TV and biwi (a wife) isunparalleled in our lives."
