Polanski receives lifetime award in Zurich

Zurich: Director Roman Polanski collected his lifetime achievement award at the Zurich film festival and said that it is "better late than never".

In 2009, when Polanski was on his way to accept the honour, he was detained on an American warrant in child sex charges when he landed at the Zurich airport.

"What can I say? Better late than never. It's a very moving moment for me. It's a strange anniversary for me - two years, day for day," contactmusic.com quoted the 78-year-old as saying when he received the honour Tuesday night.

He fought extradition to the US and was allowed to walk free in 2010 after several months of jail time and house arrest at his Swiss chalet.

Polanski is best known for his films Chinatown, Rosemary's Baby and The Pianist.
