Police begin investigations against Nagarjuna

  • Leading Telugu actor Nagarjuna was today booked on charges of abusing a woman scribe and for criminal intimidation, police said.
  • The Jubilee Hills Police registered a case against Akkineni Nagarjuna, based on a complaint filed by Y Sunita Chowdhary, who alleged that the actor had used "filthy and vulgar" language against her and had even threatened to kill her when she met him during the film shooting of Damarukam on September 29.
Hyderabad: Hyderabad police Saturday began investigations against leading Telugu actor Akkineni Nagarjuna, who was booked for allegedly abusing a woman journalist and for criminal intimidation.

Police sources said the the police may question the actor and also record the statement of Y. Sunita Chowdhary, who lodged a complaint against him.

A case under sections 506 (criminal intimidation) and 509 (insulting the modesty of a woman) of Indian Penal Code was booked against Nagarjuna on Saturday at Jubliee Hills police station.

Sunita, a freelancer who is also working as member of state censor board, alleged that the actor threatened to kill her and used filthy and vulgar language against her when she met him at Annapurna Studio during the shooting of Damarukam Sep 29.

The actor reportedly picked up an argument with Sunita over an article she had written about him a few months ago.

Nagarjuna, 52, is the son of legendary Telugu actor Akkineni Nageswara Rao. One of the popular actors of Telugu cinema, he also acted in few Hindi films including Shiva for which he won the Filmfare Best Actor Award in 1989.
