Director Prakash Jha today agreed to make appropriate changes to his controversial film Aarakshan, based on the suggestions received.
Aarakshan, dealing with the sensitive issue of caste-based reservations, has been mired in controversy. The film has been banned in UP and Punjab, with state governments claiming that its release may instigate law and order problems.
Prakash Jha spoke to the media in Mumbai, accompanied by RPI leader Ramdas Athavale, who had voiced his opposition to the film for its "anti-reservation" tone.
"I am happy that you have taken this positively and withdrawn opposition to the film," Jha told Athavale.
"Some issues are sensitive; the film is made on a sensitive issue. We have made the film with these things in mind," he added.
Reacting to the ban on the film in UP and Punjab, Jha said that the reasons for the ban could be political. "In Punjab no one has seen the film. Our film deals with commercialization of education."
Commenting on the clamour for a special screening by some politicians, Prakash Jha said, "What option do we have? If interested parties want to see it, then we thought it is best we do."
Aarakshan releases tomorrow (August 12). Amitabh Bachchan, Saif Ali Khan, Deepika Padukone and Manoj Bajpai are the lead actors in this hi-voltage social drama.
