Pranayam works wonders on Niyaz

Kerala: Niyaz Musaliyar, the green-eyed boy, within a span of a few years has managed to bag a handful of different roles in the Malayalam film industry. Niyaz says he was happy to be a part of the well-liked film Pranayam by Blessy - which is still running in theatres in some parts of the state.

"Love is immortal.....and endless," says Niyaz. Likewise, the film Pranayam (Love) depicts relationships which exist beyond love. The film, starring Mohanlal, Anupam Kher and Jaya Prada in key roles, is about how love and emotions can assume different dimensions, Niyaz says.

"I was Mohanlal's son-in-law in Pranayam. It was my luck to get such a character in such a beautiful film. I thank Blessy for choosing me to work with great artists like Mohanlal, Jaya Prada and Anupam Kher. Love can happen at any age. There are many people in the world who go through such a situation which can't be expressed openly," Niyaz says.

Now, Niyaz is busy with a handful of films in his kitty. Fresh from the success of Pranayam and the recently-released Thaha's Paachuvum Govalanum where he had plum roles to play, Niyaz is all set to essay an important character in director K B Madhu's upcoming flick, Female Unnikrishnan. Suraj Venjharamood plays the central character. "Though the film is a family entertainer, I am playing an important role in the film as Suraj's brother-in-law," Niyaz says.

This native of Karunagapalli is waiting for his dream role though. He has a bunch of movies on hand, including Tamil ones, but he says his hunt for that ultimate role is on. He wants to do a deeply emotional character something as he did in his debut film Kshanakkathu. "I have a special liking for my character in Kshanakkathu. Through that film itself I proved to be capable of doing all kinds of characters. It's my dream to get a similar role that tugs at people's heart. It's my wish to play a village boy character. It should be soulful...one where I can express all my feelings," he says.

The young Niyaz fascinated teen hearts in Kshanakkathu (1990). The touching love story became popular enough to make him a familiar face in the Malayalam film industry. Later, several villain roles came his way.

After a break of six years, Niyaz made a comeback as villain in Ranjith's Black starring Mammootty. "From there on, negative roles flooded my career. Some of the films where I have done important roles are Bus Conductor, Mahasamudram, Thaskaraveeran, Red Salute, Ayurrekha, Ore Kadal, Annarakannaum Thannalaayad, Sahasram, Christian Brothers, Arjunan Sakshi and so on," he says.

"I have no qualms about playing a villain. It all depends on how we do such roles. Doing positive and negative roles are similar," he says. "I am thankful to four persons who influenced my career the most. My guru T K Rajeev Kumar, Ranjith who gave me a second entry in the film Black, Joshy for the film Dubai and now Blessy in Pranayam," he says.
