New Delhi: The tension between Captain America and Iron Man that has percolated through the Avengers films so far is to result in the mother of all showdowns in the third Captain America film, titled Civil War.

A casting call from Disney also includes a synopsis of the film. As comic book fans know, Civil War is a standalone series in which a government regulation divides superheroes into two factions with Captain America leading a resistance movement called the 'Secret Avengers' and Iron Man heading the pro-government section.

For those who don't know the plotline of Civil War, this what the synopsis says: "Billionaire Tony Stark is pitted against Captain America aka Steve Rogers in an ethical face-off over the US government's Superhuman Registration Act, which requires all superpowered individuals to register their powers and report to S.H.I.E.L.D. Following the events of Age of Ultron, the collective governments of the world pass an act designed to regulate all superhuman activity. This polarizes opinion amongst the Avengers, causing two factions to side with Iron Man or Captain America, which causes an epic battle between former allies."

In the comic book version, the Civil War ends when Captain America is assassinated but it's likely that the death will be written out of the film as it has also been revealed that Cap appears in the 2018 sequel to Avengers: Age of Ultron, titled Infinity War Part I.

Spiderman is caught between the rival factions in the comic books but no casting details have been revealed for the web-spinner. The additions to the cast that have been announced include Rush actor Daniel Bruhl as the villain Baron Zemo who was originally responsible for Captain America falling into the sea and being preserved in ice, Frank Grillo as Crossbones who murders Cap in the comics, and Chadwick Boseman as the superhero Black Panther.

Robert Downey Jr and Chris Evans will resume their roles as Iron Man and Captain America respectively, while Scarlett Johansson and Sebastian Stan will return as the Black Widow and Bucky/Winter Soldier.

The film, which will begin shooting on April 4, 2015, will be directed by Anthony and Joe Russo and is slated to release on May 6, 2016.
