New Delhi:
Actor and Comedian Stephen Fry said he was ready to go to jail over a Twitter comment. He said that he would repost an offensive tweet over and over again, even if he was fined or jailed.
Fry was defending the cause of Paul Chambers, who was convicted for posting a 'menacing tweet'.
Recently, in a fit of anger on missing his flight to Northern Ireland, Chambers had tweeted, "Robin Hood Airport is closed. You've got a week... otherwise I'm blowing the airport sky high!"
The message led the anti-terrorist police straight to him and Chambers' laptop, hard drive and mobile phone was confiscated. Chambers also lost his job, paid a fine of £1,000 and hefty legal fees.
At a fundraiser to support Chambers' cause, a number of celebrities stepped up to the plate in his defense, including Fry and Katy Perry-Brand.
According to some, the tweet was an act of foolishness but they felt that it led to an infringement of their right of free speech.
Further reports suggest that the case is expected to be appealed in the High Court.
