Priyadarshan should focus on action, drama: Ajay Devgn

Priyadarshan should focus on action, drama: Ajay Devgn
National award winning actor Ajay Devgn, who stars in Priyadarshan's next Akrosh, feels that the veteran director should focus on action and drama instead of comedies, a genre he has explored the most in Bollywood.

"I feel action and drama are Priyan's forte. Even he believes so. If you see Virasat, Gardish, Kala Pani and some of his South Indian movies, you will realise that he has a tremendous hold over these genres," Devgn told PTI.

Priyadarshan's latest comedy movie, Khatta Meetha sank without a trace at the Box Office whereas his off beat film Kanchivaram, was adjudged the best feature film in National film Awards in 2008.

The 42-year-old-actor said, Akrosh, to be released next week, is Priyan's best movie till date.

"This is a hard-hitting action movie with the backdrop of honour killings and is given an authentic and real look," Devgn said.

"When we talk about progress and development, such things are not good. Family values and honour are deep rooted issues. During one of our interactions in Delhi on the issue, I realised that supporters of such practice will come up with arguments to which you will have no answer. But, nobody has the right to take others life," he said.

The actor said the film does not put forth any statement on the contentious issue but only attempts to create awareness about it.

Ajay said 'Akrosh' portrays how powerful people are hand-in-glove with pepetrators and local police on the issue of honour killings.

"I play an Army officer on special duty, a Dalit by birth who knows the area well and is sent to the town for investigations," he said.

Devgn recalled meeting Kishore, a lower caste youth in Delhi during one of their pre-release promotional meetings.

"Kishore was in love with an upper caste girl and had married her. However, the girl's family took her away. When Kishore went back to the village, he was jailed for 28 days and no case was registered when he went to the police," said Devgn.

"The court asked for the girl to be present and the girl's family said she was dead. Kishore told us that one and half years has passed and he did not know whether his wife was dead or alive. I would like to help out such people," he said.

To a query on Akshaye Khanna, with whom he teams up after Deewangee, Ajay said he was comfortable working with him.

"Akshaye is a good actor and I get along with him well.He is relaxed and comfortable," Devgn said.

Ajay said he said he likes to maintain a balance in the genres of films he works in. "If I become repetitive, I will be criticised. I have no favourite genre," he said.

The actor, who was blessed with a baby boy 'Yug' last month, said becoming father for the second time was a fantastic feeling.

He said, however, he had not made any plans for the baby. "He is too small, only 20 days old," he said.

The actor said he plans to get back to direction end of next year.

Ajay, who has had three back to back releases this year, said he has not been able to enjoy the success. "But, I am happy. I had back to back releases and hence I was busy in promotions," he said.

He said a human being is never happy and satisfied in any circumstances. "When he is successful, he is unhappy because he does not get rest and unable to enjoy success. When he is free, he is unhappy because he wants to work," he said.
