Priyanka Chopra, during her latest appearance on Alex Cooper's Call Her Daddy podcast, opened up like never before. The actress talked about the accepted standards of beauty when she started out, endorsing a certain notion of beauty and more. Priyanka Chopra, who was crowned Miss World in 2000, said during the podcast, "For the longest time when I was young, I didn't think my skin was pretty and my skin was dark. When I was in high school, I had scars. I was a tomboy. I wasn't comfortable with how my legs looked. It wasn't all smooth. My hair was frizzy. I was just not confident."
The Quantico star also touched upon the "narratives" regarding beauty that were set in the industry in those days. She also stated she even "participated" in a few of them. "In entertainment, the narratives are set by our industry. A lot of the narratives that my younger self went through were because there were ads on TV which I also participated in later. After all, it was that normal that told me that the lighter I was the prettier I was and that narrative was set by the industry that I joined," she said.
Priyanka Chopra also mentioned that back in those days, people in fashion and movies were "expected" to look a certain way. The actress, who has opened up about her episodes of emotional eating and undergoing a corrective nose surgery after a botched procedure, explained, "When I first joined like 20 years ago, we didn't talk about it. It was just expected that you are reed skinny, your pelvic bones show and it doesn't matter how you get there. You should look a certain way and anything deviating from that is not pretty. People in fashion and people in films could actually ask you to be a certain body weight, they could actually tell you that you have to be able to get into this dress size and it was all normal. It still happens but behind closed doors."
Priyanka Chopra will next be seen in the Hollywood film Love Again with Sam Heughan, Celine Dion and Nick Jonas (in a cameo appearance). The actress also headlines Russo Brothers' Citadel. The actress' next Bollywood project is Farhan Akhtar's Jee Le Zaraa, also starring Alia Bhatt and Katrina Kaif.
Priyanka Chopra, a former Miss World and a Bollywood star, is a woman of many hats. She is the first South Asian woman to headline the cast of an American television show (Quantico) and has featured in many Hollywood projects including The Matrix Resurrections, Baywatch, The White Tiger, Isn't It Romantic, A Kid Like Jake and We Can Be Heroes to name a few.
