The censor board has changed the 'A'certification it assigned earlier to actress Priyanka Chopra'smaiden item song Babli Badmaash to 'U/A'.
The Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) hadreportedly given the song 'A' certificate after receivingcomplaint from Delhi-based women activists against"commodification" of female body in such performances but theydecided to change it to U/A following a review.
"On Monday, CBFC put Babli Badmaash through theRevising Committee, which cleared the track with a 'U/A'certificate", said a statement issued by Balaji MotionPictures here today.
Balaji Motion Pictures CEO Tanuj Garg said in thestatement that, "After submitting Babli Badmaash forcertification, we were informed that it would get an 'A'because it was an item track. We informed the CBFC that theindustry was not aware of such a rule and that this wouldwarrant a larger discussion between both parties."
He said the CBFC was informed that there was no suchblanket directive and that songs are certified according totheir content.
The dance number Babli Badmaash was initiallygranted an 'A' certificate on the ground that it was an 'itemsong'.
"The CBFC is believed to have received a complaintfrom some Delhi-based women's body regarding thecommodification of women in item songs," the statement said.
Priyanka will be seen wearing an edgy costume ofrubber and leather studded with LED lights - looselyresembling the jacket worn by actor Amitabh Bachchan forpopular disco number Saara Zamana in blockbuster Yaarana(1981)--in Sanjay Gupta's upcoming film 'Shootout At Wadala'.The retro-style track Babli Badmaash is composed byAnu Malik, while singer Sunidhi Chauhan has rendered thetrack, choreographed by Ahmed Khan.
The film, starring John Abraham, Anil Kapoor, TussharKapoor, Sonu Sood, Manoj Bajpayee, Mahesh Manjreka, KanganaRanuat among others, is slated for May 1 release.
