New Delhi: Actor Salman Khan has not yet apologised for his remark in which he compared himself to a 'raped woman' while sharing his experiences of filming Sultan. But meanwhile, actress Priyanka Chopra said that she would rather not contribute to the "noise" generated by Salman's comment.

In an interview with Khaleej Times, Priyanka said instead of adding to the "controversy," attention must be paid to the "real problem". Priyanka, 33, was speaking at the IIFA Awards held last week.

When asked about her views on Mr Khan's rape analogy, she said: "First of all, you should be asking the person who made this comment. It is very important for the media and for me as women to use our power and talk about the real problem which is happening in India every single day to so many women instead of pushing a controversy for a headline, which is unfair. There is so much reality happening like a brutal rape case in Bihar took place - why is no one talking about the issue? A lot has been said about the Salman issue. I don't want to add to the noise. I would rather bring notice on real issues. The real problem is us talking about how to treat our women better in India and how to treat women better generally."

Priyanka and Salman have co-starred in films like Mujhse Shaadi Karogi and Salaam-e-Ishq: A Tribute to Love.

Actress Kangana Ranaut told the press earlier: "We all agree that it is a horrible thing to say. It's something which is extremely insensitive." She qualified her condemnation by adding, I would like to say that let's not encourage that mentality where you point fingers at each other and want to feel greater by pulling them down and rolling people down. As a society, we have to take responsibility and stand united. And it is disgraceful for the society, not an individual. We all collectively feel sorry for that thought process."

Bollywood celebrities like actor Nawazuddin Siddiqui, filmmakers Anurag Kashyap and Subhash Ghai have also spoken up while Pooja Bedi issued a series of tweets in Mr Khan's support.

Salman's brother Arbaaz told the media: "It was just the kind of (statement) where we compare things - 'I worked like a donkey' so now people will say you used the word donkey so some animal activist will come after you."

Salman's father Salim Khan apologised for his son's remark on Twitter. In separate tweets he wrote: "Undoubtedly what Salman said is wrong, the simili (sic), example and the context. The intention was not wrong. Nevertheless I apologise on behalf of his family, his fans & friends. Forgiveness is to pardon the unpardonable or it is no virtue at all. To err is human, to forgive divine. Today on Intl Yoga Day, let's not run our shops on this mistake."

This is what Salman Khan had said in an interview: "When I used to walk out of the ring, after the shoot, I used to feel like a raped woman. I couldn't walk straight." He was describing how difficult it was filming wrestling scenes for his new film Sultan."

Salman Khan, 50, attended the IIFA Awards in Spain from June 23 to June 26. Last seen in Prem Ratan Dhan Payo, he will be star as a Haryanvi wrestler in Sultan. Directed by Ali Abbas Zafar, Sultan also features Anushka Sharma and releases on Eid this year.
