Pro-Tamil group members protesting outside Salman Khan's residence in Mumbai.
Mumbai:
Around 20 members of pro-Tamil group were detained from outside actor Salman Khan's Mumbai residence on Sunday morning. The group was protesting against Mr Khan's decision to campaign for Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapakse in presidential elections to be held in the island nation later this month.
Salman had accompanied his Sri Lankan co-star Jacqueline Fernandez to Colombo to campaign for Mr Rajapaksa on the invitation of the latter's son Namal, who is reportedly the actress' friend.
Tamil parties across the board, accuse Mr Rajapaksa of orchestrating war crimes in his country. "He is a betrayer," said Vaiko of the MDMK, who is part of the BJP-led ruling NDA.
Mr Rajapakse is contesting for a third stint as Sri Lanka President. This is reportedly the first time that a Bollywood actor has been roped in for a poll campaign in Sri Lanka.
