Punjabi singer Dharampreet, known in the state for his soulful numbers, committed suicide by hanging himself from a ceiling fan at his residence in Bathinda town, his family claimed on Tuesday.
The singer, 38, was reportedly suffering from depression triggered by his declining career.
The last rites of the singer will be held in Bathinda later today, his family said.
"He had been saying to his mother for the past few days that this fan will take his life," his friend said.
Just a few hours before committing the suicide, the singer had returned home after performing at a show in Amritsar.
His last album, Emotions of Heart, released in 2010.
