Mumbai:
Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) has asked all theatres in the city to put up photographs of Dadasaheb Phalke, the father of Indian film industry, in their premises and warned that if this is not done in a week it would ensure compliance "in its own style".
A statement issued by MNS's cine workers association said that apart from the photograph, all cinema halls, including multiplexes, should screen a short film highlighting Phalke's contribution to cinema.
According to the association's general secretary, Shalini Thackeray, the younger generation had forgotten Phalke's contribution to cinema. "His 141st birth anniversary took place on April 30 but the film industry forgot about it," she said.
The statement said the theatres has been given seven days' time, failing which MNS would see to it "in its own style" that the suggestion was implemented.
But when contacted, a spokesman of a leading chain of multiplexes said no such letter has been received.
