R Balki happy and honoured with national award

Director R Balakrishnan, whosefilm Paa won the National Award for Best Hindi film today,said that he has never been concerned about honours, but ishappy for his close friend Amitabh Bachchan who won the bestactor trophy.

"I am happy for the entire team that we got the award.But I have never been too much concerned about awardspersonally. While doing my work, I never think of or expectany award. If it comes then it is good," the director,popularly known as Balki, told PTI.

Paa won four awards, including the Best Actor trophyfor Bachchan, best supporting actress Arundhati Nag and alsofor the best make-up.

"For me the most important thing is to make a film andpeople should love it. I just wanted to make a good film inthe form of Paa. Awards are a bonus and yes, they do callfor a celebration," said the adman turned director.

Out on a trip to London, he is yet to congratulate hisfavourite actor and close friend Big B.

"I have not been able to get through him due toconnectivity issues. But we will speak as soon as soon aspossible," he said.

"I am very happy for him. He should have got it for 20other films. They have chosen only 3-4 films of him. I thinkhe is the best actor the country has ever seen. So I think hedeserves a lot, lot more," said Balki, who debuted inBollywood with the Tabu and Bachchan starrer Cheeni Kum in2007.

Based on the life of a 13-year-old child sufferingfrom progeria, Amitabh played son to Abhishek Bachchan in themovie.

Besides winning two Filmfare awards, the film waswell-received both by the critics as well as at thebox-office. The director also plans to direct his thirdventure starring the senior Bachchan by next year.

"You will see another film shaping up with Bachchannext year," said the director.
