Rajesh Singh, from Kushinagar in Uttar Pradesh, has won Rs.1 crore on the Bhojpuri version of Kaun Banega Crorepati, hosted by actor-politician Shatrughan Sinha.
The show is called Ke Bani Crorepati and comes on Mahua TV.
A graduate from Gorakhpur University, Rajesh, 34, works as finance manager in a company in Ahmedabad. Rajesh is the first person to win a huge prize money on a regional channel.
Rajesh was accompanied by his mother and aunt on the show, and they broke into tears when he reached the Rs 1 crore mark.
Rajesh plans to spend the money to provide good education to his children.
He also plans to build his house and his aunt's, and hopes to open a counselling institute to help the young decide their right career.
Shatrughan said: "This proves that if people from small towns are given opportunities, they can prove their merit. I congratulate him for the win. He has become an example for all the people in rural India."
In 2000, Harshvardhan Nawathe became the first KBC winner. Rahat Taslim won Rs 1 crore in season four but she quit at the jackpot question for Rs 5 crore.
