New Delhi: Superstar Amitabh Bachchan has praised Rajkummar Rao's latest film Newton, which narrates the story of a rookie government clerk, who is sent on election duty to a naxal-controlled town in Chhattisgarh. The 74-year-old actor described the Amit V Masurkar-directed film as 'stark reality' and a 'treat to watch.' "An eye opener on many aspects!!," wrote Mr Bachchan. Rajkummar Rao's co-stars Ayushmann Khuranna and Kalki Koechlin and filmmaker Hansal Mehta also appreciated the actor's performance in the film. "#Newton is a gem. @RajkummarRao is special, @TripathiiPankaj is adorable. @Amitmasurkar is a genius. & lot of respect for @aanandlrai," tweeted Ayushmann while Kalki wrote that she 'absolutely loved' the film.
Rajkummar Rao has featured in three movies helmed by director Hansal Mehta - Shahid, CityLights, Aligarh and he has just one advise for the actor. "Badle duniya saari, tum na badlna," tweeted Mr Mehta. "Making films is not a race with a finish line but just a never ending search for your 'self'. Thank you #Newton for reminding me of this," he added.
Newton had its world premiere in the Forum section of the 67th Berlin International Film Festival. The film also features Pankaj Tripathi, Anjali Patil, Raghuvir Yadav and Sanjay Mishra in pivotal roles.
In his review for NDTV, film critic Raja Sen wrote, "Rajkummar Rao and Pankaj Tripathi provide terrific performances, especially when pouncing on one another - even literally."
"Amit Masurkar's Newton is a dry and intriguing look at an India we don't usually see - and shows us how hard it is to take elections seriously," Mr Sen added.
Rajkummar Rao's Newton released in theatres today along with Sanjay Dutt's Bhoomi and Shraddha Kapoor's Haseena Parkar.
