While welcoming the Supreme Court's judgment to allow female make-up artistes to work in Bollywood, Ranbir Kapoor hopes the film industry does away with gender bias existing against women in other areas too.
The Supreme Court has put an end to a 59-year old practice in Bollywood that puts restrictions on women make-up artistes from being a part of the industry.
Ranbir, 32, said such shocking discrimination on the basis of gender violates constitutional values. The actor called out for giving women equal opportunity in Bollywood, saying that they deserved to be paid even more than their male counterparts for the hard work they put in.
"Better sense has prevailed. It is great that this has happened (SC's ruling). A woman should be paid even more than a man for the work she does and efforts she puts in. I hope all other fields in Bollywood which are male centric, same thing starts happening. We should have stunt women as they can be equally well and better as men in all these departments," Ranbir said.
The Barfi! star also congratulated the petitioner Charu Khurana, who challenged the gender bias in the Cine Costume and Make-Up Artists Association (CCMAA). She had argued why only men could be registered as its members.
"I congratulate Charu and it is amazing that she stood her ground and made it happen. It is a good beginning," he said here, while launching the new ad campaign for watch company Tag Heuer 'Don't Crack Under Pressure'.
Ranbir said though he juggles different kinds of pressures every day, he loves such situations as they bring the best in him.
"We all are under tough situations be it family work or marriage pressure. It is an everyday thing and I feel pressure is always a good thing to have because it brings out the best in a person.
"I am not saying that because I come from a filmy family but I think all individuals feel that way. To rise from each pressure is what makes you better and stronger," the actor said.
