Mumbai:
Actor Ranbir Kapoor says he had nothing to do with a disgruntled customer not getting the TV he bought from an online shopping site on time. Despite being named in an FIR by said customer, the 32-year-old actor told the press on Tuesday that he's not associated with the website in question and is, therefore, 'saved' from the FIR.
Speaking at the launch of the trailer of film Tamasha in Mumbai, Ranbir said, "I've heard about it. I asked my people to check and found that I am not a part of it. So I am saved."
A lawyer named Rajat Bansal accused Ranbir Kapoor and actor-director Farhan Akhtar of forgery and criminal breach of trust in an FIR filed on September 19, the Lucknow police said. Mr Bansal alleged that he had ordered a 40-inch LED TV from an e-commerce portal on August 23 and had paid Rs 29,999 via his debit card. The TV did not arrive within the promised 10 days, Mr Bansal says in the FIR. He accuses the portal of 'duping' customers.
The FIR names the directors of the shopping site but also Ranbir and Farhan because they promote the site causing unsuspecting customers to "fall into the trap." (Also Read: Ranbir Kapoor, Farhan Akhtar Named in FIR, Accused of 'Forgery')
But Ranbir says he doesn't promote the site and he, or his people, should know.
Farhan Akhtar, meanwhile, is filming abroad and has not so far responded. PTI reports that the officials of the e-commerce portal could not be contacted.
