All eyes are on the box-office as Anurag Basu's much-awaited film Barfi! starring Ranbir Kapoor, Priyanka Chopra and Bollywood debutante Ileana D'Cruz releases today.
The movie, which has been selected for the Busan film festival to be held next month, has invited attention because of its refreshing script. It is a romantic comedy which revolves around a boy named Murphy (Ranbir), whom everyone calls Barfi. Always ready with a prank, he is quite the charmer even though he is hearing and speech disabled. Priyanka Chopra plays an autistic young woman.
Yet inspite of the characters being differentially-abled, director Anurag Basu vouches for the fact that it is not a sad movie. "I wanted to make a film which is different and beautiful to spread happiness. When the characters are different, it doesn't mean the film is grim. It is a happy, commercial film," Anurag Basu had said in an interview to Press Trust Of India.
In another interview to Mid-Day.com Anurag Basu had said, "The film is a celebration of life. I've not underlined their disability nor is their disability shown in any way to be the driving force in their live."
After his benchmark performance in Rockstar, the audience is eagerly awaiting Ranbir's performance in the movie. Infact, his acting is already being compared to Charlie Chaplin and also to his grandfather Raj Kapoor. Priyanka Chopra also shows the promise of a power-packed performance. The actress is all excited ahead of the release and has even decided to give the release of her first single since it coincides with Barfi's release.Let's wait to see if this Barfi tastes as sweet as its cast promises it will.
