Ranveer Singh, Ali Zafar and Govinda: Trying to be the new Jai-Veeru and Thakur in Kill Dil?

Ranveer Singh, Ali Zafar and Govinda: Trying to be the new Jai-Veeru and Thakur in Kill Dil?
A still from Kill Dil title track featuring Ali Zafar, Ranveer Singh and Govinda
New Delhi:

The title track for Kill Dil was released on September 25 online and from the onset we feel that the film will try to recreate Sholay's 'Jai-Veeru' and Thakur feel in modern settings. They are two friends who are also criminals. They stick by each other, ride together on one bike and work for an authoritative boss which hints that we may in for a repeat of the classic setting from Ramgarh. The just released tune just adds to that notion as it reminds us of the classic Sholay theme.

The song performed by Sonu Nigam and Shankar Mahadevan to the tune composed by Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy adds to a long list of songs penned by Gulzar sahib which make you wonder about his versatility.

From the onset the song is clear about its target. It wants to become your 'go-to-theme' for long rides and road adventures with friends. Its quirky, fun, energetic and yet retro with a bit of 'old-western' thrown in.

The song begins with Dev (Ranveer Singh), Tutu (Ali Zafar) and Bhaiyaji (Govinda) whistling the tune his courtyard. From there the song takes us on a ride with the shooters as they are seen doing everything together from eating, sleeping drinking and exercising to Killing. After they stylishly, and sometimes brutely, dispatch their enemies off to afterlife abode, they return to Bhaiyaji who joins them in their celebrations. The song is closed by the villainous laugh from Govinda which we first saw in the trailer.

Parineeti, who will be seen as Dev's love interest and will be the reason behind a major plot twist, is not part of the video which seems to be riding more on the shoulders of the camaraderie between the male lead stars. (Also: Kill Dil Trailer Review)

The song is catchy and may well have its share of airtime. But will it become another anthem for friendship or a Bollywood or Yash Raj classic? We don't think so.
