Bollywood actor Ranveer Singh said that he was honoured to play the role of Peshwa Bajirao in his upcoming film Bajirao Mastani.
"Bajirao was a great man. The deeper I get into it, the more I realise what a great man he was. It is a great honour to be selected to play this character. I did my best to justify what I was given to play. He was a true Maratha. It has been an intense experience for me," said Ranveer.
Ranveer also said that it was not easy for him to play a period character.
"I had to focus and try and create something distinct. It is not easy to do a period character and transport mentally to that time. No other film demanded this much of me. It is not a complaint. I am proud and happy to play this role which you get in a decade. I had got to do much for my craft," he added.
The Ram Leela actor also said that Deepika Padukone looked absolutely beautiful in the song Deewani Mastani from this film. Director Sanjay Leela Bhansali had created an 'Aaina Mahal' (glass palace) for the song.(Also Read: Total Eclipse of Ranveer's Heart. He'd 'Wait a Lifetime' For Deepika)
"Bhansali Sir has outdone himself. Sir had to create an Aaina Mahal of that scale and beauty to justify the beauty of his leading lady. That song is incredible. It will be one of the highlights of the film," he said.
Gajanana, the first song from the film, was launched by Ranveer and Deepika in Pune's Bhalewadi Stadium on September 15.
"It is amazing that we kickstarted the promotions from Pune as it is appropriate. Bajirao's centre of empire is in Pune, his Mahal and his statue," said Ranveer.
Ranveer also said that choreographer Vaibhavi Merchant calls his style of dancing as Visarjan.
"Everybody finds a reason to party during Ganesh Visarjan (immersion). I love dancing in Visarjan processions. I have got down and danced in random Visarjans after becoming an actor," said Ranveer.
"It is one of my favourite dance forms of partying on street with loud music. People do strange steps. I am very excited and if I can't control I will jump and go and dance in one of the processions," he added.
Bajirao Mastani is scheduled to release on December 18.
