Mumbai: Actor Ranvir Shorey said that he does not feel comfortable doing mainstream films.
"Mainstream films are about making money. Work is not that important and spinning money is. I find myself awkward doing such films. I am not comfortable there," Ranvir told PTI.
The 43-year-old actor, who has worked in both commercial films like Singh is King and critically acclaimed films, said that he looks for a good script even while choosing a commercial film.
"Ek Tha Tiger was a great script and was directed by a great director Kabir Khan. Salman Khan, leading superstar of the film industry, was a part of it. I don't take up these projects for visibility. I look for a script," he said.
Ranvir said that he is mainly interested in small and independent films.
"I feel lucky that films like Singh is King and Ek Tha Tiger came my way. There were mainstream films that were different. But my main staple is small, independent and smaller films. I feel that such films have meaty parts that are challenging like Mithiya and Fatso. They are important to my heart and career," he said.
"Big films or small films - I don't look at it that way. I do not discriminate that way. For me the role, script and the director matter," he added.
Ranvir also said that one tends to learn more with independent films.
"They (big films) do bring visibility. Also they have more reach and offer more money as well. But with independent films you tend to learn more, push the envelope of your craft. One ends up making more friends here (independent films) than those films," he added.
Ranvir will soon be seen in Kanu Behl's Titli which is scheduled to release on October 30.(Also Read: Titli Director Kanu Behl: The Film is About Patriarchy)
