Red Riding Hood gets gothic treatment by Twilight director

Red Riding Hood gets gothic treatment by Twilight director
London: The age-old fairytale of Red Riding Hood is getting a edgy make-over with Twilight director Catherine Hardwicke helming the version starring Amanda Seyfried.

And, like Twilight, the atmosphere of the movie, set in a medieval village, is very dark and more than a little raunchy.

The 25-year-old actress plays a girl in love with brooding hunk Peter, played by Shiloh Fernandez. But her parents have arranged a marriage for her to the wealthy Henry, played by Max Irons.

Determined to stay together, Valerie and Peter are planning to run away together when they find out that Valerie's older sister has been killed by a werewolf.

The villagers have been dealing with the werewolf for years, but animal sacrifices have always kept it at bay.

But now it starts killing humans, and so werewolf hunter Father Solomon, played by Gary Oldman, is brought in to kill the beast.

But Solomon warns that the wolf, who takes human form by day, could be any one of them  and Valerie starts to suspect she might know who it is. The film has added ample doses of sex and violence to keep the adult audiences interested.

"Catherine Hardwicke has just completely turned this story into something edgy and gothic and dark, and she's clearly somebody that's very capable of turning something, everything into an extraordinary world, as we've seen before," said the actress.
