Actor Fardeen Khan will not be tried in a drug case.
The Mumbai sessions court today granted immunity to the actor.
"This is a big decision for me. I am grateful to the judge for accepting my application. I will share this happy moment with my family," the actor said.
Charges were framed against him in October last year for attempting to buy cocaine in a 2001 case, dropping against him the graver charge of possessing over two grams of the drug that carried a maximum punishment of 10 years in jail.
Fardeen Khan's application under Section 64 (A) of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act was accepted by the court.
The actor has been granted immunity from prosecution in the case on the condition that he will undergo a detoxification process, which he has already completed.
The court however said that if he is arrested for a similar offence in the future then the immunity against him shall be withdrawn.
The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) arrested Fardeen in Juhu in northwest Mumbai May 5, 2001 on charges of possessing cocaine.
Nasir Shaikh, who allegedly sold him the drug, and Tony Gomes, who allegedly supplied it to Shaikh, were also arrested.
Charged under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, Fardeen claimed he had tried to buy only one gram of cocaine as against the NCB claim that nine grams of the drug were found on him and Shaikh.
Fardeen, the actor-son of the late Feroz Khan, took to acting in 1998 and has starred in over 20 films including Pyaar Tune Kya Kiya and No Entry.
