Remakes happen in the absence of original ideas: Ali Zafar
Ali Zafar will next be seen in David Dhawan’s Chashme Baddoor.
Pakistani singer-actor Ali Zafar,who will be seen in the remake version of Chashme Baddoor,says that remakes are made to earn profit when at timesBollywood runs out of original ideas.

However, the 32-year-old actor also acknowledged thatfilms based on innovative subjects too are being made in thetinsel town.

"To some extent it is true that the industry is runningout of original ideas. But the commercial model of film-makingis to revamp a story, keeping in mind today's times andpresent it in a different way. Cinema is a business. The aimis to make profit," Ali Zafar said in an interview.

Ali Zafar, who has acted in television dramas in Pakistan,also pointed out that the commercial viewpoint and originalideas go hand in hand in Bollywood.

"But there are original films also getting made like TereBin Laden, English Vinglish, Vicky Donor. Both the thingsexist. There are times when industry people are running out ofideas and while there are others who are trying out newersubjects," he said.

Directed by David Dhawan, Chashme Buddoor is the remakeof 1981 hit romcom by the same name.

"I think remakes are tricky. But if somebody knows the artof remaking, it is good. The best part of this film is thedialogues that Sajid-Wajid came up with. When we were narratedthe film we were in splits, couldn't stop laughing," Ali Zafarsaid.

The 1981 film was about three bachelor students - FarooqShaikh, Rakesh Bedi and Jai Ravi Baswani- and how Deepti Navalcomes in their life.

The remake version will seeAli Zafar essaying the role ofFarooq Shaikh.

"I am sure comparisons will be made. One can't avoid it. Idoubt if everyone has watched 1981 film, especially the youth.It will be new for them," Ali Zafar said.

"I play a normal, shy and soft-spoken guy. The film isreally very funny, the punch lines are hilarious, and it is aremake of a cult movie redone in a modern way," he added.

Ali Zafar also said that he had not seen the original filmwhen Dhawan approached him for the project.

"To be honest, I had not seen the original film. I saw itafter David Dhawan offered the film to me. I saw it and Iliked it. I am happy that I got to play the role that FarooqSheikh did," he said.

The remake starring south actors Siddharth and TapseePannu, Divyendu Sharma of Pyaar Ka Punchnama fame, RishiKapoor, Juhi Chawla and Anupam Kher is slated for April 5release.
