Rich tributes to Bhupen Hazarika on first death anniversary
Prayer and memorial meetings were organised across the state where people from all walks of life gathered to pay musical tributes to the late musician
Guwahati: Rich tributes were paid acrossthe state to Assam's cultural icon Bhupen Hazarika on hisfirst death anniversary today.

Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi, paying his respects to themaestro at his samadhi (cremation ground) at the GauhatiUniversity campus here, said that "as long as the mightyBrahmaputra flows, the maestro's music will continue toreverberate."

Later, addressing another memorial meet at the LatasilField here, the chief minister said Bhupen Hazarika would continue toinspire people, especially youths, for generations to comethrough his rich musical legacy.

The chief minister also attended a prayer meet atBhupen Hazarika's residence in Nizarapar area here where notedfilmmaker and his companion of 35 years Kalpana Lajmi waspresent.

Prayer and memorial meetings were organised across thestate where people from all walks of life gathered to paymusical tributes to the late musician.In Golaghat district, more than ten thousand people fromdifferent walks of life, social and cultural organisationsgathered to sing the maestro's popular number Manuhe Manuherbabe as a tribute to him.Bhupen Hazarika's statue, along with those of two othercultural giants of the state, first Assamese filmmaker JyotiPrasad Agarwala and revolutionary singer and artist BishnuPrasad Rabha, was also unveiled at Golaghat.

Kalpana Lajmi would also be felicitated for the first timein Assam at a public function in Golaghat tomorrow as arecognition of her contribution to his life.

Bhupen Hazarika's son Tez and his estranged wife PriyamvadaPatel Hazarika, who arrived here from Canada earlier, hadperformed the annual sradh according to the Hindu calendaron October 25 last.
