Umbrella hitmaker will star alongside Alexander Skarsgard and Taylor Kitsch.
Berg is expected to soon begin shooting the Universal movie, based on Hasbro's naval combat board game, Variety reported.
The film is slated to release on May 25,2012,the producers said yesterday.
The story is about a battle that takes place across the seas, over the skies and land in a battle for planet survival against a superior force. Kitsch, who also works with Berg in the NBC series
Friday Night Lights stars as a naval officer who leads the fight. Skarsgard will play his brother.
Berg is producing the movie along with Sarah Aubrey of Film 44; Brian Goldner and Bennett Schneir of Hasbro and Scott Stuber of Stuber Pictures.
Rihanna, 23 has charted seven No. 1 singles since debuting in 2005.
