New Delhi:
Good Girl Gone Bad Rihanna needed something to wear to the CFDA Awards in New York on June 2, where she was to be named Fashion Icon. So she drafted the services of designer Adam Selman - her stylist's boyfriend - to create a special occasion dress, one that would make her look like a walking talking diamond.
He came up with a see-through creation of shimmering mesh of the sort guaranteed to send seismic shockwaves through the Internet. The "scandalous" dress was "just fishnet and crystals," Selman told Style.com. We can see that - and so much, much more.
The dress came with a matching headscarf and long gloves. There was also a fur boa, should Rihanna have felt the need to cover up any bits (she didn't).
Some have branded the outfit RiRi's revenge dress - directed at either ex-boyfriend Drake or Instagram who suspended the singer's account over racy pictures. We think it's just as likely that Rihanna wore the dress because she is literally the only person in the world who could and would.
Also at the CFDA do were Heidi Klum, Alessandra Ambrosio and Beyonce's sister Solange, she of the elevator fight. But nobody was looking at them.
Actress Marion Cotillard was also at the awards, looking very French in a Dior lace dress with 'wings' placed in such a way as to demand to be worn on an actress/model body. On a Rihanna-less day, Marion's ability to wear so difficult a dress with such grace would have been granted the fashion headlines it so deserves.
Meanwhile, at the awards, Rihanna accepted her prize from American Vogue editor Anna Wintour.
