For the last two days, the 63-year-old star of films such as Amar Akbar Anthony and Rafoo Chakkar has been defending himself against charges of having been anti-Islamic and also anti-Prime Minister Modi in separate tweets.
Here's a run through of his tweets:
Call a spade a spade. My democratic rights allow me to say what I feel. Do not need to be Bhakt/chela/chamcha https://t.co/Cof4Sf2WF3

I do not dislike our PM. P'haps you didn't read my earlier tweets.Kya Karen aaj Kal Sab galat samajh rahe hain mujhe https://t.co/IcE14QWAGA

This restricted limit of 140 characters tweet screws up a lot. Chalo koi naheen Bahut samajhne wale bhi hain-na samjhe wo Anari hain lol

The offending tweets appear to be this one from PM Modi's appearance at Wembley in London:
Come on cut off PM. Too boring a speech. Chill!
— rishi kapoor (@chintskap) November 13, 2015
And these responding to tweets from others urging Muslim clerics to condemn Islamist terror attacks:
Absolutely.By not doing so,Islam is being maligned.Islam does not advocate violence. All Islamic countries must act https://t.co/NZsANRQ2Rg
— rishi kapoor (@chintskap) November 14, 2015
Then all Islamic countries must collectively condemn these attacks. By not doing so, obviously people are suspicious https://t.co/1GMAZSheBl

Every so often, Mr Kapoor finds himself having to explain a joke he made to those who didn't find it funny. Some months ago, he briefly quit Twitter saying he was tired of being trolled. Within half a day, he was back. (Also Read: Rishi Kapoor Tells Trolls What he Eats, Drinks is Not Their Business)
