New Delhi: Actor Rishi Kapoor has applied his trademark outspokenness to Parineeti Chopra, appearing to ridicule her recent weight loss in an interview to DNA. Parineeti, 27, debuted a toned new look last December, having worked on her fitness for nine months.
Mr Kapoor, asked about popular award shows, told DNA, "I couldn't believe it when they recently gave an award to Parineeti Chopra for losing weight. Can someone please give me an award for gaining weight?" The 63-year-old actor was likely referring to the Style Icon of the Year prize that Parineeti was given at the Stardust Awards last December.
Mr Kapoor was attempting to prove his point about the credibility of such awards. "I never did believe in popular awards. It's gotten much worse now. I use award trophies as doorstops in my home. What they have done to film awards is truly tragic. They've reduced them to trivia. Shameless. Agar sabko khush karna hai toh phir award ka matlab kya hua?," the actor was quoted as saying in the interview.
The actor, who won the Lifetime Achievement Award at the Screen Awards held on January 8, said, "It's my fourth or fifth lifetime achievement award. They pleaded with me to accept it. They think my work is over, so they keep giving me lifetime achievement awards. But my work continues irrespective of whether they give me an award or not."
The above statement is somewhat undone when you consider this tweet that he posted after the award show:
Rishi Kapoor, who rarely appease to have paused to consider the consequences of a tweet, was attacked on Twitter last June for joking about actress Sonakshi Sinha's weight. His remark now comes in the wake of several young women speaking out against body-shaming. Parineeti was trolled after her transformation and actresses Sridevi and Pooja Bedi's daughters have written lengthy responses to disrespectful comments about their appearance.
