Robbie Williams named his new album Take The Crown to give himself a "kick up the backside"

Robbie Williams named his new album Take The Crown to give himself a "kick up the backside"
Robbie Williams is determined to be as passionate as possible about his latest record
Los Angeles: Singer Robbie Williams admits he wasn't confident about his last release, 2009's Reality Killed the Video Star, and thinks that is why it performed poorly so he is determined to be as passionate as possible about his latest record.

He said: "Taking the crown back, or telling people to come and take it from me. Or something. It's a bit of a kick up the backside for me to go, 'Look, f***ing front this, do it f***ing properly or don't bother.'

"I put out an album last time and I came out half-cocked. I wasn't very confident with it. I think people can pick up on your body language. If you're not arsed, it's going to come across and people will pay you in kind. You've got to come in f***ing wanting it and I think I chose a title to impress that upon people, that I'm engaged, that I f***ing want this, that I want to compete, that I want to be in big venues doing big shows and I would like it to be very successful, please."

Some of the songs on Robbie's new album were co-written by Gary Barlow and he admits it was nice to receive the approval of his former foe.

He told ShortList magazine: "I think I've had a long yearning for Gaz to a) be my mate, b) see what I can do in the studio and c) to go, 'Yeah, that's good.'

"I think I've needed Gary's approval for a long time and I got it. I just wanted to be in the studio with him and have him go, 'You're good at this.' It was important to him."
