Thiruvananthapuram:
The State Chalachitra Academy is following rules while disqualifying three films, including two Malayalam movies, from the International Film Festival of Kerala, Academy Chairman Priyadrashan said today.
He told PTI the decision to drop the films was taken as the festival rules did not permit an entry of a film in the competition section once it had competed in any other international film festival.
While Malayalam film Aadimadhyantham was dropped for screening the movie before the jury in an incomplete format, the other two films Aadaminte Makan Abu, an Oscar entry for best foreign film, and Philippino movie Palawan Fate were removed for competing in another festival.
With the decision to remove Aadaminte Makan Abu after the omission of Aadimadhyantham, no Malayalam film has found a place in the competition section.
Aadaminte Makan Abu had won the Rs 15 lakh 'Rajatha Mayooram' award at the International Film Festival of India (IFFI) at Goa last week.
Meanwhile, Sherrey, the director of Aadimadhyantham, alleged that there was conspiracy behind the decision to remove his film from the competition section.
Sherrey told PTI that the selection committee had approved the film and there was no justification in the Academy Chairman's decision based on his discretionary powers to remove the film from the list.
Sherrey has also moved the High Court against the decision and a Division Bench is to hear the case tomorrow.
