Saif Ali Khan on Kaalakaandi poster
New Delhi:
Saif Ali Khan's Kaalakaandi, whose September release date was postponed, will release in January now. A new poster released by the makers unveils the release date to be January 12, 2018. Kaalakaandi will be Saif Ali Khan's first movie after this year's Rangoon and the actor said: "I truly consider it to be one of my best films and am really forward to the release. Earlier this year, the Censor Board reportedly suggested as many as 70 cuts to the movie ahead of certification. But the actor and the team of his movie immediately came up with a plan for a hassle-free release.
Saif had told IANS that their movie was being sent to Film Certification Appellate Tribunal, who recently helped films like Lipstick Under My Burkha and Babumoshai Bandookbaaz escape the CBFC's snipping scissors. "There were lots of cuts. There is a government body called FCAT. So a lot of films that go there with a lot of cuts come out with no cuts or really fewer cuts. It is a magic place apparently where films go with a lot of cuts and come out with no cuts," Saif had said.
The teaser of Kaalakaandi released in July, leaving movie buffs a little perplexed about the film's subject. Talking about what his new movie deals with, Saif said: "The film is a cross section of Mumbai with underworld goons, doomed bankers and idealistic lovers all mixed together in this karmic tale about love, crime and living a lifetime in one night!"
Kaalakaandi is co-produced by Cinestaan Film Company and Ashi Dua Sara of Flying Unicorn. The cast of Kaalakaandi also includes names like Deepak Dobriyal, Vijay Raaz, Kunaal Roy Kapur, Sobhita Dhulipala, Amyra Dastur and Akshay Oberoi.
