The wedding of the year was flagged off with a private sangeet attended by family and a select band of Saif Ali Khan and Kareena Kapoor's celebrity friends. The first of the pre-wedding functions was held at Kareena's Bandra residence and every attempt was made to keep it off-limits from the press, including a covered terrace.

Family presence included Saif Ali Khan's sisters, actress Soha and jewellery designer Saba, and Sara, Saif's daughter with first wife Amrita Singh who's recently made a grand public debut at the Ambani party for designers Abu Jani and Sandeep Khosla. Soha's beau, actor Kunal Khemu, was also at the sangeet.
Kareena's elder sister Karisma wore a green lehenga by Manish Malhotra, who tweeted a picture of Karisma and himself against a backdrop of garlands inside the house.

The long-awaited wedding seems to have united one famously warring pair of Kapoor bahus. Actress Neetu Kapoor, wife of Rishi and mother of Ranbir, was among the guests, an indication that the reported long-standing animosity between her and Kareena's mother Babita may have finally been put to rest. Ranbir seemed to be absent from celebrations but another Kapoor cousin, Armaan Jain - aspiring actor and son of Raj Kapoor's daughter Reema - was present.
