Mr Nadiadwala says he will not direct another movie for the next 4-5 years
Mumbai:
Kick has become the biggest grosser of 2014, making director Sajid Nadiadwala the first debutant director to have entered the coveted Rs 200 crore club. The film starring superstar Salman Khan, Jacqueline Fernandez, Randeep Hooda and Nawazuddin Siddiqui hit over 5,000 screens in India on July 25. But the grounded producer-director says that he would not have turned to direction had it not been for Salman's constant persuasion. "The move to turn a director was a very important decision and totally uncalled for, especially after my experience of 27 years as a producer. Had Salman not persuaded me, I wouldn't have tried my hand at direction," said Mr Nadiadwala. Kick also opened in 42 other countries including in non-traditional markets like France, Germany, Morocco and Maldives.
Talking about the number game at the box office and attaining a grand opening Mr Nadiadwala said "Everyone including my mom, wife and team was surprised by the storming box office collections but Salman was very cool about it. His facial expression showed that he knew what I was capable of and the collections were not surprising."
Mr Nadiadwala has a great rapport with good friend Salman Khan. Sharing his experience as a debutant director, Mr Nadiadwala confessed it was embarrassing to direct a friend. "It was embarrassing to direct my friend Salman and tell it's not working at times," he said.
Now that there is nothing to feel embarrassed about and there is every reason to celebrate, Mr Nadiadwala has his wish list ready. "When I write my autobiography after 20-25 years, I want 2014 to be the weakest year of my life. There should be a slew of much bigger hits after this one," he said.
On being asked about his next project as a director, he said "I am lazy. Also, I am good with my production job, so I will not direct for the next 4-5years." Mr Nadiadwala also mentioned that he would like to work with Bollywood's Mr Perfectionist, Aamir Khan.
