Salma Hayek considered adoption

Salma Hayek considered adoption

Highlights

  • Salma Hayek was considering having a child on her own before meeting husband François-Henri Pinault.
  • The 45-year-old actress wanted a baby but was starting to doubt whether or not she would ever meet Mr. Right. In a show of independence, she decided to go it alone, but then suddenly met her fashion billionaire husband.
  • She explained: "I was trying to figure out how to have a child on my own. I came to terms with saying, '[Love] might not happen, and I have to be okay with that’.
  • “Then someone came along whom I never would have pictured or thought I would have wanted; he was completely out of my box. Even though I was not looking, I was present and I was open. I am the luckiest person I know."
  • The couple went on to tie the knot and have four-year-old daughter Valentina, although Salma admits that as an older mother, she found it tough going back to work.
  • She told Marie Claire magazine: "I think if you are young and you have children, you still have so much to prove. When you have children later in life, you lose a bit of that urge for working.
  • "At the time, I was thinking, I can do another movie that may or may not work, or I can be with my child, nourish her, and not miss a moment of this precious time. And if my career is going to end in two years, what's the difference, anyway?"
  • But it was her husband who urged her to keep working in order to keep her options open further down the line.
  • She said: "He told me, 'You feel like this right now, but when Valentina grows a little older, you are going to want to go back, and it might be too late. You are so smart, so talented. You have so much more potential. Don't you want to see where it will take you?'
  • “I was always trying to make people believe in me, and then I found someone who believed in me more than I believed in myself."
