Salman Khan at the Mumbai Airport on May 5
New Delhi:
Bollywood actor Salman Khan, dressed in a blue shirt and denims, interrupted his Bajrangi Bhaijaan shoot to fly from Kashmir to Mumbai on the eve of the crucial verdict in the 2002 hit-and-run case involving him. The actor was swamped by fans and paparazzi at the airport.
On Wednesday, a Sessions Court will decide if he is guilty of running his SUV into a bakery killing one person. The Defence argues that the driver was at the wheel, not Salman, while according to the Prosecution, the evidence against the actor is strong. Charged with culpable homicide not amounting to murder, the actor could be jailed for up to 10 years if convicted.
Mr Khan, 49, is one of Bollywood's blockbuster heroes and has at least Rs 200 crores, possibly more, riding on him. Besides Bajrangi Bhaijaan, the actor also has a Diwali deadline to wrap up Prem Ratan Dhan Payo, opposite Sonam Kapoor, which he has been filming near Rajkot, Gujarat. He is also reported to be making sequels to three films - No Entry, Kick and Dabangg.
As Judgement Day nears, the industry awaits the verdict with bated breath.
