Kolkata: Sarod maestro Ustad Amjad AliKhan was today conferred an honorary doctorate by JadavpurUniversity in recognition of his contribution towards Indianclassical music.
The degree of doctor in literature (Honoris Causa) wasgiven to him at the 57th annual convocation of the universitywhich was presided over by West Bengal Governor M K Narayanan,who is the chancellor of JU.
Taught by his father and guru Haafiz Ali Khan, UstadAmjad Ali Khan is the the sixth generation Sarod player in hisfamily and is popularly known as "Sarod Samrat".
At the mere age of six, the 67-year-old had given hisfirst solo recital and was awarded Padma Vibhushan, thecountry's second highest civilian honour in 2001.
