Clarence Clemons, thelegendary saxophonist of the E Street Band who playedalongside Bruce Springsteen for the past 40 years, has died atthe age of 69.
Clemons suffered a massive stroke earlier this week.While initial signs had been hopeful after his hospitalisationand two subsequent brain surgeries, he took a turn for theworse later in the week, reported Rolling Stone online.
"His loss is immeasurable," Springsteen said.Clemons, known to fan and friends as the 'Big Man'was the heart and soul of the E Street Band. His playing ontracks like 'Born To Run', 'Thunder Road', 'Jungleland','Dancing In The Dark' and countless more represent some of themost famous saxophone compositions in the history of Rock andRoll.
Becoming a part of Springsteen's backing band in theearly seventies, over the next two decades Clemons became themost recognisable member of E Street Band for his massivesize, equally huge personality and his onstage role asSpringsteen's foil.
The Band reformed in 1999 and has been incrediblyactive ever since. Clemons loved being back on the road, evenas he battled incredible pain with his knees, back and hips.
Earlier this year, he played the saxophone on twotracks on Lady Gaga's new album 'Born This Way'. He appearedin the recently released video 'Edge of Glory' and his finallive performance was with Gaga on the season finale ofAmerican Idol.
