Popular Korean band Seventeen's member Wonwoo lost his mother on Wednesday. The band's agency Pledis Entertainment released a statement, which announced that she died of illness and that the funeral will be attended by family members and close friends. "Hello. This is PLEDIS Entertainment. SEVENTEEN member WONWOO's mother passed away this morning from an illness. WONWOO is currently at the funeral hall, and the funeral will be held with family and close friends. We ask for your kind consideration and support so that WONWOO can have a period of mourning with his family. May she rest in peace," read the statement shared by the agency on Wednesday.
The Korean band Seventeen counts Jun, Hoshi, Wonwoo, Woozi, DK, Mingyu, The8, Seungkwan, and Dino among its 13 members. The band entered the music circuit in 2015 with their album EP 17 Carat, which emerged as the longest-charting K-pop album of the year in the US. It also managed to make it on Billboard's "10 Best K-Pop Albums of 2015."
The band members specialise in the genres of Hip-Hop Unit, Vocals and Performance, while Wonwoo's area of expertise is rap. Recently Wonwoo made an appearance at a fan event called 'Seventeen in Carat Land,' where at the end of the show it was announced that a band world tour will take place soon. Fans of the band are popularly called 'Carats.'
