Shaan Turns Ambassador For Anti-Tobacco Campaign

Mumbai: Shaan will beseen singing on television for an advertisement aimed atdiscouraging youths from tobacco consumption.

The Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare andSalaam Bombay Foundation have roped in Shaan as the socialambassador for the ministry's national anti-tobacco campaign.

"According to a study, children aged between 13 and 15years get addicted to tobacco. This is a cause of concern andtherefore the ministry thought that a celebrity could help indiscouraging youths to move away from this hazardous habit,"Dr Jagdish Kaur, Chief Medical Officer of the DirectorateGeneral of Health Services of the Ministry said.

Out of the total outlay of Rs 186 crore in the 11thFive Year Plan for the National Tobacco Control Programme,India spends Rs 25 crore on audio-visual publicity in theanti-tobacco propaganda, she said.

"I hope the youth will internalise and like my messagethrough my audio-visual Life se panga mat le yaar," Shaansaid on the occasion.

The singer later gave a live performance for the youthsuffering from cancer and getting treatment at Tata MemorialHospital.
