New Delhi:
Superstar Shah Rukh Khan was given an honorary doctorate by the Maulana Azad National Urdu University in Hyderabad on December 26, reported news agency ANI. The 51-year-old actor was dressed in doctoral robes and sunglasses (too much swag, SRK?) as he collected the the degree from university officials at a ceremony on Monday. In his acceptance speech, the Chennai Express star said that his mother would have been very happy as, "I am getting this honour in Hyderabad, her birthplace." President Pranab Mukherjee was the chief guest at the sixth convocation of the university where nearly 48,000 students were awarded degrees.
Telangana and Andhra Pradesh Governor ESL Narasimhan was the guest of honour while the event was presided over by Chancellor Zafar Younus Sareshwala.
Shah Rukh Khan also collected his college degree from Delhi University in February, 28 years after he graduated from Hansraj College. SRK, who was in Delhi promoting his film Fan, joked: "Since I had not collected my degree since 1988, they thought, chalo dete hain." His Fan director Maneesh Sharma is also a Hansraj alumnus. "They didn't find Maneesh's degree. So, we are not sure if he even passed college," quipped SRK.
Shah Rukh Khan was seen in this year's Fan and Dear Zindagi. He also had a cameo in Ae Dil Hai Mushkil. The actor will be next seen in Rahul Dholakia's Raees, co-starring Pakistani actress Mahira Khan and Nawazuddin Siddiqui. The film releases with Hrithik Roshan's Kaabil on January 25. SRK is currently filming an Imtiaz Ali project and will also begin work on Aanand L Rai's film, in which he reportedly plays a dwarf.
