Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan, who joined the microblogging site Twitter On January 2, 2010, now has a whopping 11 million fans on the site.
When SRK made his Twitter debut, he posted "Being extremely shy, I never thought I would be here (on Twitter). But my friend Karan Johar insisted that I should learn to share my life," Shah Rukh posted on his page.
Five years down the line, SRK has 8,135 tweets about subjects as varied as photoshoots, films, hobbies and his family. SRK shared the first picture of his son AbRam on Twitter last year. From sharing inspirational quotes, sometimes lashing out at people and frequently making his fans happy with retweets, Shah Rukh has put himself very much out there using Twitter.
Other Bollywood celebrities who have a mighty presence on Twitter include Amitabh Bachchan, who was named the Social Media Person of the Year by the Internet and Mobile Association of India, Aamir Khan, Salman Khan, Deepika Padukone and Priyanka Chopra.
The latest actor to join the celebrity bandwagon on Twitter is Ranbir Kapoor. He joined Twitter on January 20 with a candid shot in a black T-shirt as his display picture and received a warm welcome from his fans with 'Welcome Ranbir Kapoor' trending on the site. While his fans await his first tweet, Ranbir has already managed to gather more than 20,000 followers on Twitter in a day.
