Shah Rukh will soon appear in Farah Khan’s Happy New Year.
New Delhi:
Actor Shah Rukh Khan, in bandanna and sunglasses, told NDTV that he "loves cinema, sports and kids," though, we're guessing, not necessarily in that order. SRK spoke to us about his new entertainment venture Kidzania, his Happy New Year look and how the film's song and action sequences are forcing him and his fellow actors to stay fit.
'Suhana's daddy' told us that Kidzania was a gift to children everywhere. "There's a friend of mine who owns this place in Dubai. So he got it opened up one evening for my kids and my kids went inside. We were having dinner, they went for an hour, didn't come out for like four-five hours. And we were like, why they aren't coming back? They came the next day and spent eight hours there. I then personally saw it. It's a great concept. It's educative first of all and great fun. And you know, how children dream up for small things like they wish they should have a small car, a fire brigade and I loved all of it from the bottom of my heart. I thought it should be in India. Not only for my kids but all the kids deserve it. We have such little entertainment for kids," SRK said. (Also read: None of my Children Have my Habits: Shah Rukh Khan)
"I always like I say, work for sports, cinema and kids. These are three things I love. And suddenly things happened. A friend of mine came and said you know somebody wants to open with you. So I opened it. This is the first time I've come to see it functioning," he added. SRK spent last Sunday, Father's Day, at Kidzania.
SRK has been spotted wearing a bandanna in public lately and he says his long hair - grown for Happy New Year - is hard to deal with now. "I am shooting Happy New Year, we had a break for 15 days because the actors have taken some time off. But we still have some 3-4 days of patch work left. So it is one day with beard, one without, my hair is long in the film, I have a pony tail and the golden streak. So, I am left with having to maintain this though I really want to cut it. I don't feel like combing it every day. It is a big pain," SRK said.
SRK had long hair in Don as well but, as he says, "That was like an extension. So, it was easier. But this one is like real." (Also read: Shah Rukh Khan Has 'TV Glue' Ready for FIFA World Cup)
The much-talked about golden streak that appears to have been inspired by Mel Gibson's character in Mad Max was Happy New Year director Farah Khan's idea. SRK said, "Farah just told me, we landed in Dubai. Let's do something to your hair, let's keep them long and I had a beard. So, I said what do you want. My hairstylist Raj suddenly said, let's make them golden. Now it's all golden and they say yes it looks nice. It was all Farah's decision; she wanted something different and classy. I don't know if it looks classy and all."
Finally, the secret behind SRK's fit physique is - work. "Last one and a half months, we have been doing action and dance portions for Happy New Year which has been very hectic. So without wanting to, you have to be fit. There were semi-finals, finals, action and so many takes. There were almost 40 days that were really strenuous for the actors. I actually started exercising my legs because my knee was hurting from the injury and my shoulders. I think all of us, you see - Abhishek, Deepika - we all look lean and fit because we have been dancing for 40 days. You see Boman, he is all flat now because of 40 days of hard work, " SRK said.
That sounds tough but the actor is currently on a 15-day break so he can enjoy not working out and watching football to his heart's content.
