Shah Rukh Khan's new movie Happy New Year has broken an internal record for its production house, Red Chillies Entertainment, with it's first week collection.
According to figures released by Red Chillies, Happy New Year has closed week one with earnings of Rs 157.57 crores from the Indian box office. In comparison, 2013 hit Chennai Express - also made by Red Chillies and starring SRK - made Rs 156.7 crores in its first week.
Both films co-star actress Deepika Padukone. Red Chillies Entertainment is owned by SRK and his wife Gauri Khan.
The overall record for first week collections is still held by Aamir Khan's film Dhoom: 3, which made almost Rs 200 crores. It co-starred actor Abhishek Bachchan who also appears in Happy New Year.
Happy New Year released on October 24 and is directed by Farah Khan. In the film, SRK, Deepika and Abhishek are part of a gang of six who enter a dance competition in Dubai with the intent of looting a bank. Boman Irani, Sonu Sood and Vivaan Shah also co-star.
