New Delhi:
Actor Shahid Kapoor, who plays Maharawal Ratan Singh in Sanjay Leela Bhansali's period drama Padmavati, says that the film 'celebrates India,' reports news agency IANS. Padmavati has been embroiled in controversy, since the film's shooting began. An outfit of the Rajput community claimed that the historical facts have been distorted. Earlier this week, a rangoli, dedicated to Deepika Padukone's look from Padmavati, was vandalised in Gujarat's Surat. Of the continuous opposition, Shahid told IANS, "All I can say is that that we are ready to release the film on December 1. I really feel it's a film that everybody will be proud of because it celebrates India, our culture and what we stand for."
Deepika Padukone had yesterday tweeted to Information and Broadcasting Minister Smriti Irani for 'action' on vandalised Padmavati rangoli and expressed her disappointment in a series of tweets.
Meanwhile, Shahid clarified, "It shows everybody who is from this country in the most amazing light and that is the endeavour of this film. I feel people will truly see that when they will watch the film," adding that Sanjay Leela Bhansali or team Padmavati is not "really commenting on it because we need to contain the situation."
Padmavati stars Deepika Padukone as Rani Padmini of Chittor, who performed jauhar after Alauddin Khilji invaded their fort. Ranveer plays Alauddin Khilji and Shahid features as Rani Padmini's (Deepika) husband Maharawal Ratan Singh.
After Padmavati's first posters, featuring Deepika Padukone as Rani Padmini, were released, the Shri Rajput Karni Sena objected to the nature of reference to Alauddin Khilji. The posters were burn outside Rajmandir Cinema Hall in Jaipur. And before that, the outfit had objected to the portrayal of certain historical facts in the movie. They have threatened to stop the release of Padmavati until Mr Bhansali shows them the film.
