New Delhi:
Actor Shahid Kapoor is prepping hard for his forthcoming film Padmavati, in which he features as Raja Ratan Singh, husband of Rani Padmavati, played by Deepika Padukone. The 36-year-old actor has been undergoing rigorous training in sword-fighting and defence tactics for the last four weeks, reported Mumbai Mirror. Shahid Kapoor is being trained by martial arts artiste and Kalaripayattu expert Sunil Kumar, who has trained actors like Shah Rukh Khan (Asoka), Ajay Devgn (Lajja), Abhishek Bachchan (Raavan) and Ranveer Singh (Bajirao Mastani). Pictures of Shahid Kapoor practicing sword-fighting along with Sunil Kumar have been circulated on social media by the actor's fan clubs.

A source close to the development told Mumbai Mirror that 'Shahid is a quick learner and a committed pupil.'
"The actor has been training rigorously and has practiced leaping into frenzied combat situations with lightning speed. First, Shahid trained with sticks, which were then replaced by more intricate and dangerous weapons like daggers, swords, spears and flexible swords. Shahid has also been training in defence tactics against armed attacks. While most of the initial equipment was artificial, this week, the final prep involved real swords and shields, Mumbai Mirror quoted a source close to the development as saying.
"Apart from learning the physical forms of Kerala's age old martial arts, Shahid was also keen to educate himself in the ancient art of surviving a battle. Sunil is also an expert in ayurvedic healing and traditional forms of rejuvenation. He has been discussing this with Shahid who is keen to incorporate the practices into his daily routine," the source added.
Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Padmavati also stars Ranveer Singh, who features as Mughal emperor Alauddin Khilji. The source told Mumbai Mirror that 'the film has Shahid and Ranveer engaging in different forms of sword-fighting, including the most popular Rajputana style involving spear play.'
Padmavati also stars Jim Sarbh and Aditi Rao Hydari in pivotal roles. The film is scheduled for release next year.
